I was once a member of the American Karate Blackbelt Association (AKBBA). Great memories mentored and taught by Pat Burleson. He'll be missed.
Robert is my uncle. He still till this day could probably go out and compete
McCallum was one of my all time heroes. In my opinion one of the best ever. Love to see him fight, glad we never crossed paths.
Pretty much the style grillo was working towards. Excepte rays kicking ability is better. Grillo punched better
Evolution. How it began? Where it went. And how it is now
Also the sport is affected by society’s norms. Hence pc is the keyword
The man was amazing.
I can't believe that was 20 years ago... I wish I could go back in time
Only if I can take my knowledge with me.
Do you have any of our fights?
@@Edgemn I should somewhere..... I will have to look
What's your quickest victory time? Drop us a link to the video.
That was quick!
Back in the day it was 1st to 5 points. Some matches didn't last very long.

Classic martial arts tournament from long ago
Wonderful video of a very special man. Thank you for sharing.
LOL the refs gi...
JL learned that double kick from me!, lol. Those days were so cool. Point fighting was much closer to full contact, really rough and tumble, and both these guys were as rough and tough as they come.
He is so good I hope to be like him someday like I take Karate classes
You know my dad is Donald Brady no cap
J Pat Burelson was a true Living Legend! He will be missed to say the least!…Professor Larry Hilton
Super impressive
I fought Ray in 1980 in dfw ...3 to 0 I had 0 😱 😆
Oh yeah it’s my karate sensei As the ref Master hourscht
Tremendously proud of each of them:)!
what the hells up with the cartwheel kick lmao
My Dad trained under John Longstreet
Nice
._.
Bob harris was my kenpo instructor.
Tight fight by two of the best.
John Longstreet was a great point fighter. He was also hell of a contact fighter. His techniques were very clean, I remember being impressed by that when I first saw him fight in a tournament WAKO in UK in 1985. His points were very clear to all. Great timing , distancing, strategy and technique mechanics. Economical too, none of the 'prod prod lead leg side kick then lean in with an extended backfist', which is the approach alot default to , unless they see chance for a 'blitz' or defensive bfist. Around this time Longstreet and such as Jesse here, and quite a few others took the game to a high level.
hi master thorn -bodie
hi Master Thorn! hi Loren
Very cool and helpful thanks
Really helpful thanks
i think Longstreet was just as good as Jeff smith
John is my teacher

Met him a couple of times about 8 years ago, still pretty flexible from what I remember, but DANG! Boy was good!
I want to buy 10 A3 were i can get it
Isnt that robert harris ?
I was there. Each of these gents were at the top of the game as it was being played then. The wily winsome "Scorp" was one of a dozen people out there who on the right day could have whipped Ray. It was Ray's day and Scorp, as I remember, was gracious and game.
Damn good
That side kick though 0:34
good job sweetie
nice
Looks more like a hard game of tag by today's MMA standards.
you dont know shit about fighting. ill play tag with you
Pat Kelly, this was before video games, cell phones and the savaging of American society. With the right device you could time travel back to where each of these unpaid combatants would have kicked Conor's butt in this kind of contest or you could fast forward to the so called "art" of our time, where MMA guys master 8 jujitsu moves and train only to shorten an opponent's lifespan one elbow at a time. The current world of MMA is peopled by the thugs these old guys originally trained to defend themselves against.
same name lol
I was done after that kick lol. .. homeboy is tough!
The Real Deal ! Jimmy "Whirlwind" Tapia! Kick of The 80"s.
